Discussion Board: Presidential Rankings
This discussion board looks at the Office of the President of the United States https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/constitutio… f the United States Constitution outlines the expectations for the office of the President. At various times in the nation’s history, the office of the Presidency has increased in authority. For example, after WWII the president was given the sole power to declare nuclear war. When the Constitution was written, the writers gave the Congress the power to declare war, of course they didn’t know about nuclear war. Since WWII Congress has not issued a formal declaration of war. Another example would be Executive Order 9066 signed by Franklin Roosevelt in World War II.
One could argue the conditions a President faces allow for their leadership abilities to emerge. As you read and think about these individuals who have served in the Executive branch. Think also about some of challenges they faced, like the Civil War, WWII, or the 9/11 attacks. You can find the C-SPAN ranking of presidents here.
