Fared 155

QUESTION

Introduction

This week, I want you to think about what nutrition is, and to then assess your current nutritional habits. This will provide insight and guidance as we move forward in the class in tracking our nutrition.

Your Task

Please answer the following questions in complete sentences:

  1. Create a list of foods that you generally eat (this doesn’t need to be in sentence form). What are the reasons for gravitating toward some of these foods (stress, family tradition, cheap cost, etc)?
  2. In regard to the list you just created, do you think that these foods align with principles of a healthy diet? Do you believe that these foods will either help or hinder your current and/or future health…why?
  3. Do you believe that you are getting too much, too little, or the right amount of the following? Explain:
    1. Calories
    2. Fat
    3. Carbohydrates
    4. Protein
    5. Water
    6. Vitamins and Minerals (you can be general or specific for this one)
  4. How often do you eat out vs. eat meals at home during the week? What would you say the primary reason for eating out is? (Examples: lack of time, it’s cheaper for me to eat out, socialization with family/friends, I don’t know how to cook, etc.)
  5. How often do you (or a family member) cook your own food versus eating frozen or packaged foods?
  6. What are your thoughts on dieting? Have you ever tried dieting and if so what was your experience like?
  7. What is one insight that you are hoping to get about your personal health and nutrition from these assignments?

Environmental science

QUESTION

Part 1. Ecological Footprint:

Last week you completed your ecological footprint. Based on that activity:

  • Discuss the findings of your Ecological Footprint activity.
  • Were you surprised by the results? Were there questions that surprised you?
  • Why do you think the calculator asked about what percentage of processed, packaged, not locally grown food you eat? What are the specific environmental impacts of agriculture?

Part 2 – Human Population

In the course of completing your ecological footprint, you learned about many of the resources used to supply our needs and absorb our waste. Unfortunately, this has led to the degradation of many of our resources which has caused environmental and human harm. As human population increases, the demand for food will also increase, yet we have a limited amount of land for production. Past practices are unsustainable and have led to issues of soil erosion, decreased fertility, salinity, water pollution, air pollution, and others. Food systems are increasingly vulnerable due to pressures on natural ecosystems and climate.
We currently produce enough food; however millions of people do not have enough to eat for various reasons including poverty, natural disasters, political violence and other geopolitical factors. This is the most basic and critical environmental challenge.

With that in mind,

  • Explain why the concept of carrying capacity is important when discussing human population growth.
  • Can the world feed a population of nearly 10 billion by 2050? Describe in detail one solution or recommendation that can lead us to sustainable food production that is also environmentally friendly.

Connecting Personally to a Writing Prompt Topic

QUESTION

Assignment Task:

In a double-entry journal (or chart), brainstorm 5 examples of when you personally experienced anxiety or stress of any kind. Write these examples on the left side of the double-entry journal. Describe what happened. You can be brief here.

On the right side of the double-entry journal, reflect on why you think you experienced the anxiety. What fears did you have? Were other people experiencing the same things and reacting the same way? What expectations did you have for yourself? Where did those expectations come from? (Did authority figures / family / peers express these expectations to you in some way? Does society communicate these expectations? Are your experiences learned behaviors?) Be specific and elaborate.

Requirements: Do not generate any portion of this assignment with the use of AI tools or editing software. All the work for this assignment should be your own. The information for this assignment should come from your own life.

You might not experience anxiety strongly. That’s awesome! You are lucky. But everyone experiences stress. If you have trouble identifying your own stress levels, make a list of stressful situations you find yourself in regardless of whether you perceive that you are stressed in those moments.

Format: The double-entry journal should be a chart that keeps ideas organized in vertical columns and with rows. The example on the left should line up with the reflection on the right. This visual organization will help your brain think more deeply about the topic

Please note that the list of scholarly sources should include the full MLA bibliographic info for the source, not just a broken link. If you do not include the full bibliographic info for the source, the topic proposal will get a 0 for that part of the assignment.

  • Grading for the topic proposal: up to 10 points for a good Topic Proposal paragraph, and 5 points per scholarly source formatted in MLA.
