QUESTION

Initial post:

In preparation for the initial post, consider two (2)?of the leading causes of the American Revolution:

The Proclamation Act of 1763

The Navigation Acts

The Stamp Act

The Declaratory Act

  • The Townshend Act
  • The Boston Massacre
  • The Coercive Acts
  • Then, in one (1) to two (2) paragraphs, address one (1) of the following:
  • Analyze the cause and effect of two acts passed by the British Parliament on British North America. Which of your two selections from the list above do you consider the most significant and why?
  • Examine and explain the significance of the Declaration of Independence to the development of the American Revolution.
  • Use your own words use 2 scholary sources cited and use apa format

Reply:

For this week’s discussion, I chose to analyze the cause and effect of the Stamp Act and the Boston Massacre.

The Stamp Act of 1765 was a direct tax imposed by the British Parliament on the American colonies, requiring them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. The act was met with widespread opposition among the colonists, who argued that they should not be taxed without representation in Parliament. This led to protests, boycotts, and acts of civil disobedience across the colonies. The Stamp Act Congress was convened, uniting colonial leaders in opposing British taxation policies and laying the groundwork for future cooperation and resistance.

  • The Boston Massacre of 1770 was a violent confrontation between British Soldiers and a crowd of colonists in Boston, Massachusetts. Tensions had been rising between the colonists and the British authorities, particularly due to the presence of British troops in Boston and the enforcement of unpopular policies. The massacre occurred when a mob began harassing British soldiers, leading to the soldiers firing into the crowd and killing five civilians. This event further inflamed anti-British sentiment in the colonies and fueled calls for independence.
  • In terms of significance, while both the Stamp Act and the Boston Massacre were crucial events leading to the American Revolution, in my opinion, the Stamp Act had a more profound and far-reaching impact. The Stamp Act directly challenged the principle of colonial autonomy and sparked organized resistance and unity among the colonies. It prompted the formation of the Stamp Act Congress, which laid the groundwork for future intercolonial cooperation and resistance against British policies. Additionally, the repeal of the Stamp Act marked a significant victory for the colonists and demonstrated the power of their collective action.

On the other hand, the Boston Massacre served as a rallying cry for the. Colonists further fueled anti-British sentiment, but it did not have the same organizational impact as the Stamp Act. While it contributed to the growing tensions between the colonies and Britain, the Boston Massacre was more of a catalyst for further resistance rather than a unifying force for colonial opposition. Therefore, while both events played important roles in the lead-up to the American Revolution, the Stamp Act is considered more significant due to its broader implications and its role in galvanizing colonial resistance against British taxation and control.

Week 6 – Outline for week Final Research Paper

Instructions

This week (week 6) you will be completing your outline for your research paper which is due by the end of Week 7.  This weeks assignment is a one-page outline for your week 7 paper.  You will use proper outline formatting and address key points for your paper.  Remember – this week is just an outline!  You will gather your thoughts and begin to lay the foundation for your paper.  (An example is attached).

Use outline formatting, such as:

I.  Introduction

    A.  Main Point

    B.  Secondary Point

II.  Body – Paragraph 1

    A.  Main Point

    B.  Secondary Point  …

There are three parts to this requirement.

1. You will complete an outline for your paper that will serve as your basis for writing your research paper. Be as detailed as possible, using an outline format.  Be sure to include references.

2. You will post your outline in the Week 6 discussion area. Classmates will have the opportunity to review and recommend changes or additions to your outline.

3.  By Sunday, you will consider those suggestions and revise your outline, then submit it to the assignment link.

Instructions: In this course, we look at a verity of different interview techniques and styles. We also look at the different kinds of perspectives on ethical issues and how they fit into properly conducting interviews.

For this paper, you will pick a course related topic to discuss, but one that is not a specific topic addressed in our text. Be creative! I do not want you to reiterate the text, but choose a topic in the text and expand on it. Don’t provide the same examples the text uses. Some examples are given below, but it is recommended that you choose to write on a topic you have already encountered or you have thought about previously. Of necessity, the instructions for this assignment are somewhat vague. Each student will have to explore different resources and will need to develop an individual approach to the subject. The goal is a brief but detailed exploration of some narrowly defined aspect of Interviewing Practices.

Identify, specifically, the strengths of your topic and what some weaknesses are. Drawing on various sources, explain the details of your topic. Assume I know nothing about this topic and share your research on it with me. Why is it important? What have you learned? What are the Pro’s and Con’s? When would this be used? What is the history on this topic?

Research papers are generally divided into two main categories: informative or argumentative. Informative papers generally demonstrate your understanding of a subject, simply reflecting what information is out there. Or you can choose to write an argumentative paper. You could information, offering commentary and opinions though taking no clear position, or you may offer a solution to a problem or argue that a law is having an unwanted effect.

The more specific you can be the better, and feel free to include examples that will strengthen your account.

1004.1.6 : The First Civilizations (through 250 BCE)

QUESTION

The first human civilizations emerged in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southern and East Asia approximately five thousand years ago. The civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China were all significantly influenced by their respective geographical surroundings, and they structured their agricultural practices, trade patterns, and even religious beliefs around the natural world. Members of these early communities crafted unique social, cultural, and political institutions that reflected their relationship with nature and with each other.

In this task, you will be required to describe the key geographical features, religious beliefs, political structures, and social structures of ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China. You will then compose a brief essay that compares your choice of two of these civilizations by using one characteristic from the table.

Comparative rssay

QUESTION

In this comparative essay, you will analyze and compare how filmic adaptations embody a key theme or issue from a literary text. In this three page essay (not including Works Cited), you will analyze either The Secret Life of Walter Mitty or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and their filmic adaptations. Once you’ve picked a story narrative, you will then need to note a theme or issue found in the text (short story/novel) and each filmic adaptation. As a reminder, a theme is a topic, subject, or even message within an artifact. To help identify a theme, you can ask yourself “what does [text] say about [theme/issue]”?

I choose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you would need to discuss the 1964 children’s book ( I will attach the book for you ) and the two films: 1971 and 2005.

*** Note, I have taken out the option to write on Wonka. I will explain this in class.**

As an example, I might explore “fatphobia” as a theme in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I would need to establish that this is a theme in the text and then explore how the the 1971 film and 2005 film portray fatphobia. I would need a clear claim, such as

“Despite a more modern approach, the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory uses similar filmic elements as the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to portray fatness as inherently bad”

“Both filmic adaptations further the them of “fatness” as inherently bad through their portrayal of Augustus.”

Rhetorical Situation

Audience: Professors within the HU/COM department

Task: Analyze and compare the treatment of one theme or issue and its representation in two filmic adaptations

Context: You can assume that readers will know of the artifacts, but may have not seen or read them in some time.

Purpose: Identify and discuss trends between an original artifact and it’s adaptations

Essay Structure and Minimum Requirements:

Must include an engaging title, intro, at least two body paragraphs, and a conclusion

Provide and follow a clear, engaging thesis, supported by topic sentences

Create a Works Cited (may be attached at end or on new page – up to you!)

Use MLA formatting throughout

Effectively and ethically uses textual evidence (from class texts and films) to support your claims

Do not use outside sources – this is a close analysis essay!

Have 3 double-spaced pages, 12 pt. Times New Roman black font

Clearly identify the theme/issue in the artifact and explore two filmic adaptations

Implement an effective organization strategy (suggestion: dedicate one body paragraph per film)

Student Learning Outcomes this Achieves:

Recognize the relationship between particular cultures and their artifacts; for example, understand the relationship between the dominant values of the cultures and the revolutionary quality of artifacts that challenge these cultures.

Understand the humanities as a record of what the culture values.

Recognize themselves as part of a cultural tradition, as inheritors and contributors to it.

Extend their critical thinking skills through examining and discussing primary texts.

Extend their writing skills through a variety of interpretive writing assignments.

you have to make an 8-10 slide presentation. I will provide all the intructions below, and readings.

QUESTION

For this first major assignment you are asked to work collaboratively with your peers (OR ON YOUR OWN)  to read, analyze, and synthesize sources on our case study topic: surveillance and privacy. We will be discussing the topic via our discussion boards in advance, but the collaborative presentation will give you a chance to go into more depth and will give you practice in developing an inquiry topic, conducting research, and analyzing sources.

If you want to work in a group, email me and (if I have others who want to collaborate) I will connect you. If you want to work with particular people (and they want to work with you too!) email me and copy those individuals on the email so I know you want to work as a group.

Please note that you DO NOT have to do this assignment as a group assignment!

INSTRUCTIONS:

We will all read and discuss the six essays on surveillance provided in the Module, which will give you multiple perspectives on the topic.

In addition, you/your assigned group will view at least one of the videos I’ve posted to Canvas on the topic of surveillance and privacy  ( video are below) and read one additional source (which should be a peer-reviewed journal article)   on the topic.

You/your group should imagine that you are being assigned to write a capstone-type project on this topic (remember, you will be choosing your own unique topics for the capstone project). Based on your readings and small group discussion, the group should come up with a hypothetical inquiry question on the topic (see The Craft of Research Ch. 3 and 4) and then choose a minimum of three sources to examine in depth. Provide an overview of each source you choose, which should include:

a brief summary of the source’s main arguments;

the disciplinary perspective(s) the source come from;

an examination of the validity of the source and any potential biases;

  • a brief QUESTION of how you could use the source in your hypothetical project. Would the source help support your argument? How so? Or would you argue against the points made in the source? Why?
  • One of the major goals of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to explore different presentation styles so as to help you assess which methods would work best for your own research presentation later in the semester. Your group can choose to use PowerPoint or Prezi, but there are other options out there. While all presentations should have text, you can also choose to incorporate visuals.
  • Regardless of which program you choose, you should all have:
  • a title slide with a potential title for your project (and your group members’ names if appropriate);

a slide with your inquiry question;

slides with overviews of 3 sources – it should be clear which slide pertains to which source;

a conclusion slide in which you reflect on what you learned about developing inquiry questions and working with sources.

QUESTION

I  chose to compare and contrast Sister Callista Roy’s The Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) an interactive process and Margaret Newman’s Health as an Expanding Consciousness (HEC) a unitarian process. While both acknowledge the multifaceted nature of individuals, their concepts, assumptions, and applications differ significantly. Understanding these frameworks equips us to deliver holistic and patient-centered care. RAM offers a practical approach to addressing immediate needs, while HEC encourages us to consider the bigger picture

RAM implications provide a framework for assessment using the four adaptive modes. RAM guides nurses to design interventions that address specific adaptive challenges. RAM emphasizes adaption as a key concept. It allows individuals to constantly adjust to internal and external stimuli to maintain balance and well-being (Jennings, 2017). The model identifies four adaptive modes: physiological, independence, self-concept, and role function. RAM assumptions are individuals strive to maintain a state of adaption, adaptation is influenced by philosophical, scientific, and cultural factors, and nursing intervention aims to promote these adaptations. RAM is applied in guiding assessments and interventions with diverse health conditions. It is useful for addressing the challenges derived from the four modes (McEwen & Wills, 2023,178).

HEC presents a more philosophical perspective. It views health as a continuous process of expanding consciousness. Illness is not solely the absence of disease, but an integral part of the individual’s life experience. From the next, “persons as individuals and human beings as a species, are identified by their patterns of consciousness (McEwen & Wills, 2023,198).”The focus is on recognizing patterns within these experiences and fostering growth through them. HEC assumes Health is an evolving unitary pattern of the whole, including patterns of disease, Consciousness is the informational capacity of the whole and is revealed in the evolving pattern, Pattern identifies the person–environment process and is characterized by meaning.

(Endo, 2017) . HEC implications encourage nurses to view patients’ experiences with a broad perspective focused on personal growth and emphasize the importance of therapeutic communication to facilitate self-discovery. The application of HEC Is more relevant in chronic illness. Nurses are encouraged to support patients in finding meaning in their experiences and fostering resilience in the face of illness (McEwen & Wills, 2023,198).

Understanding these frameworks equips us, as future nurses, to deliver holistic, patient-centered care.  RAM provides a roadmap for addressing immediate needs. At the same time, Newman’s theory encourages us to consider the bigger picture, fostering the individual’s potential for growth and a deeper sense of well-being.

create a power point presentation using a Rogerian app to solve a problem within your field of study (paralegal law).

QUESTION

Instructions

The final project will be a multimedia presentation. Imagine that you’re giving this presentation to your colleagues/employees/employers/stakeholders as a way to reach common ground to resolve a problem.Although this is to be completed as a multimedia presentation, you will still need to show a strong use of the Rogerian structure and argument. Ensure this is a Rogerian approach and not an informative speech or a Toulmin argument.

Choosing a topic:
For this project, you’re not trying to take a stance and prove your stance, rather you’re trying to solve a problem within your field of study (or workplace or home or wherever). Focus on what problems need to be resolved. Explore the proposed solutions from various viewpoints. Propose the “best” solution by establishing a common ground for all stakeholders. Much of the challenge with this project is that you must demonstrate you’ve analyzed multiple solutions from multiple perspectives and found a solution that is (cleverly) based on the common ground of those perspectives.

Structure of presentation: Make sure to include the following sections in your presentation:

  • introduction,
  • argument/presentation objectives,
  • claim,
  • background,
  • body,
  • conclusion.

Make sure your presentation includes the following:

  • A brief background for your topic and the problem you’re addressing,
  • A discussion of the various sides of the debate, including core values or warrants underlying their arguments
  • The common ground you’ve identified for those various perspectives
  • The proposed solution based on that common ground.

What does Multimedia mean?Any of the following artifacts can be compiled as part of a multimodal project: advertisements, audio files, blogs, collages, comic books, video clips, interviews, phone conversations, lectures, field observations, photos, blogs, posters, presentations, charts, graphs, skits, films, videos, television shorts, websites, performances. You can convey information and images in any way you like to communicate your message.A few apps you might consider using on their own or in combination:

  • Powtoon
  • Prezi
  • Animoto
  • Audio Voiceover
  • Instagram
  • Storbird
  • PowerPoint
  • Screencast (Jing)
  • Google Sites
  • Canva
  • Smore

Feeling stuck? Here’s some inspiration:

Expectations

Your project should in some way incorporate the following, however briefly:

  • Engage a minimum of 2 scholarly (peer-reviewed) sources (from APUS library) and 2 sources of your choice (4 sources total).
  • Introduce key issues of this problem—why is it a problem? Why has the problem not been resolved already?
  • Consider key limitations and barriers to solving the problem.
  • Address key voices within the conversation—what has been proposed so far? Why have those proposals not been implemented?
  • Address the commonalities of the viewpoints on how to resolve the problem while also addressing the key differences.
  • Offer your opinion or impression of the proposed resolutions based on close analysis.
  • Tempt your audience through common ground to consider the solution you’re proposing.

the projects will be run through Turnitin upon submission, and all distinctive matching information caught by Turnitin must be formatted as a quotation. DO NOT copy-paste material without immediately marking it as a quotation and citing it.

PSCH320 Writing in Psychology

QUESTION

For paper 3, you will design a short survey study, collect, and analyze data. You will work in a team of 2-3 students. Thus, this unit requires a combination of group work and individual work. To help you with Paper 3, follow these guided questions to help you organize your thoughts and writing. Further, as was the case with the previous worksheets, you will receive feedback that you are expected to incorporate into your final experiment and final paper. As such, the more you write for this worksheet, the more feedback you will get, which will aid you in your final paper assignment for this unit. This worksheet is an individual assignment, and as such, every student needs to complete this worksheet independently

For Paper 3, you are asked to identify a question related to a psychological question. Bear in mind that you are not implementing an intervention. Rather, you are collecting data from other undergraduates. For instance, past students have successfully completed this assignment by measuring attitudes about their social problem, along with another variable (i.e., the relationship between attitudes about homelessness and willingness to help people who are homeless). To protect your respondents, I ask that you limit your questions to topics that do not require respondents to disclose deeply personal or painful experiences (e.g., exposure to trauma, sexual behaviors, etc.). Whereas the previous papers in this class focused on core community psychology principles, Paper 3 will be broader in scope. You will use self-report measures to examine the relationship between at least two variables.

Once you develop your research question, you can design your study.

Please answer the following questions (each response is worth up to 2 points):

1. Provide four or more references (in APA style) that you will use in your literature review. These references should be about the topic you selected for Paper 3.

2. Provide an outline of “what is known” about your variables. Think of this as an outline of your literature review section of your paper.

3. Explain the variables you wish to study.

4. Why do you think the variables in your study are related to one another? Rely on the existing literature for your evidence and rationale.

5. How could you measure these variables? For this response, please list the names of measures and the original references for these measures. I recommend making sure you can get the full measures before committing to a particular measure.

6. How will you score the measures? In other words, how do you use the data from the measure once respondents complete it?

7. Are your variables continuous or categorical? Explain.

8. Provide at least one hypothesis for your study.

9. What statistical analysis will you need to test your hypothesis?

10. What information should participants know before completing your study? Are any of your questions likely to embarrass or distress participants? Explain.
