1. After reading Chapter 5 in Surviving Your Dissertation: A Comprehensive Guide to Content and Process, comment on the type of study you are considering doing for your dissertation. Is this quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods?
2. Next, tell us which statistics and research design courses you have taken and any areas you think may need “refreshing” before tackling data analysis/research design.

the two essays in Chapter 15 of Elements of Argument,”Rating Your Professors,” ( i provided them below)raise some important issues related to studentevaluation of teachers. You may have had an opportunity to participatein such evaluations in some of your classes at College, butthese are, of course, not the only (or even the primary) way thatstudents evaluate their teachers. Many of you may have, no doubt, goneonline to read how students rank their former professors or maybe youhave even submitted an online evaluation yourself.

What has been your experience with online teacher ratings? Have youused them? How have you used them? Have you found them to be helpful?Accurate? Why or why not? If you haven’t used them, why haven’t you,especially considering how widespread their use is nowadays? Howeffective a method of selecting a teacher or a course is this? What areits benefits? What are its disadvantages?

Topic Proposal – Instructions:

First, read the Essay 2 assignment entirely and carefully.( will be attached as a document below)

After doing some preliminary research and formulating a working research question, write a substantial paragraph that proposes an essay topic on a specific controversy (length: several sentences, no more than 1 page).

Answer all questions below.

1. Describe how the topic relates to your academic field or intended career. Why, specifically, have you chosen this topic?
2. Frame your proposal with one or two specific questions you will examine in the course of researching the controversy and developing your position on it.
3. Address all of the following questions. Why does this controversy matter? To whom does it matter? Who is your audience for this paper? What kinds of sources have you consulted to begin researching your topic? What kinds of sources will you use to meet your essay’s rhetorical purpose?

While this component of Essay 2 is not graded, completing it counts toward the effort portion of the essay grade and allows me to give you feedback on focusing your topic and beginning your research.

MIDTERM ESSAY: CRITICAL PRODUCTION REVIEW OF DESIGN ELEMENTS

For your midterm essay, worth 10 points towards your final grade, please write a thoughtful short essay of about 600 words that addresses the following prompt:

How do the various DESIGN ELEMENTS in either the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS or the Hecht Studio Theatre production of THE MOTHERFU**ER WITH THE HAT help tell the story, set the mood & introduce the audience to the “world of the play”, convey the “message” of the production, etc. (Or, if you feel they do not do that, please describe the elements in question and critically explain why they do not help.)

Please isolate and describe SPECIFIC MOMENTS, SPECIFIC DESIGN CHOICES, etc. related to the SET DESIGN, COSTUME DESIGN, LIGHTING DESIGN, or SOUND DESIGN to answer this portion of the question. You should also incorporate quotations from the readings on WHAT IS DESIGN? to help bolster your discussion.

Please DO NOT REVIEW THE ACTING!!! I would like this paper to focus on the Design elements, rather than the acting.

SUMMARY: Summarize the case. Identify the main point (as in “What’s your point?”), thesis, or conclusion of this case. (5 points)

SUPPORT: Do significant research outside of the book and demonstrate that you have in a very obvious way. This refers to research beyond article itself. This involves something about the company/organization/individual or other interesting related area. Show something you have discovered from your own research. Be sure this is obvious and adds value beyond what is contained in the case itself. (10 points)

• EVALUATION: Apply the concepts from the appropriate chapter. Hint: The appropriate chapter is the same number as your case. Be sure to use specific terms and models directly from the textbook in analyzing this case and include the page in the citation. (15 points)
• QUESTIONS: Address all the case questions. Be sure to answer each question fully. (15 points)
• SOURCES: Include citations on the slides and a reference slide with your sources. Use APA style citations and references. (5 points) The paper must be in Word and include titles corresponding to the headings above.
