watch someone stream

Question Description

For this assignment, you will watch someone stream. It can be anyone, as long as they AREN’T a pro. That comes later.

  1. What’s the audience and how does the caster appeal to/create for that audience?
  2. Does this cast cater to hardcore fans or do you see ways in which there is an attempt to help people who don’t understand the game follow the action? Why?

  4. How does the caster involve the audience directly in the cast? If they don’t, why? What might be gained or lost?
  5. Why’d you stayed with the stream? What is the appeal?

  1. They aren’t a pro or a professional organization
  2. Stream for at least 1 hour

These are to be the equal of 1000 words (4 pages), but you may script yourself and record these as Vlogs (or stream them).

Evaluation

Question Description

Practice for your evaluation assignment by completing a genre analysis.

According to Dictionary.com, a “genre” is “a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter.”

Genres are all about expectations (i.e. conventions). An artistic composition must meet specific conventions in order to “fit” within its category, or genre. (For more exposure to genre, explore the 24-hour news genre with The Onion’s “Breaking News: Some Bullshit Happening Somewhere” or Youtube’s “Editing is Everything,” portraying “IT” in seven different genres—linked below.)

For this genre analysis, you’ll be assessing whether the artistic composition of your choosing (This can be a book, movie, song, album, painting, podcast, TV show, etc.) is doing what it’s “supposed to do” within a genre. In other words, does it successfully follow genre conventions? You’ll need to develop three to five conventions for evaluation within the genre that you choose and apply those criteria to your artistic composition.

Examples:

Does Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” meet the conventions of the country genre?
Does “Shaun of the Dead” meet the conventions of the horror genre?
Is “Die Hard” a Christmas movie?

The comment may include how materials relate to other course concepts or examples from your own life experience. The question may address any aspect of the paper including something that was confusing or about applying the material to different contexts. The completed assignments will be submitted before the lecture when the reading will be discussed (Sunday evening by 10pm). Full credit will be given for submitting on time with reasonable content (1 point), including both summary questions and/or comment (1 point), and meeting length requirements (1 point). A brief grace period of 30 minutes or less will apply in order to account for occasional technical difficulties in submitting work. Timely submission of work is important to keep pace with the course and to allow time to review grading feedback to guide maximum performance on subsequent work.
