Your task is to roam the World Wide Web and discover what other people have said to explain and support their views on particular topics in physical anthropology. These investigations are intended to expand your understanding of biodiversity, evolutionary process, primate and human adaptation, and genetics.

In doing research, keep in mind that not everything on the Web is accurate, current, or true. In order to evaluate which sites can be trusted and which ones cannot, ask the following questions:

• Who are the authors of the site and what are their credentials?
• Are they experts and is the information current?
• When was the website created and last updated?
• Do the facts presented in the site seem correct?
• Is the purpose of the site to objectively inform and explain or to persuade and sell a particular perspective?

INSTRUCTIONS:

Search the internet for taxonomic classifications of “new” species and respond to the following:

1. Summarize the basis for classifying a new species and explain who gets to name a new species and if there is any check on irresponsible naming. (10pts)
2. Identify an example of a species which became extinct before it was even classified. (10pts)
   HINT: Consider what kind of creature this might be, where/when the extinctions mostly occur, and possible causes for extinction.
3. Include a URL for the example you shared. (5pts)

Ch. 5: St. Thomas Aquinas

1) How would St. Thomas defend himself (if, indeed, such a defense is possible) against the charge of being “homophobic” (a word that did not exist in his time, but which is fairly common today)? Would you find his defense plausible? Why or why not?

2.) If one is not at all religious, is it still possible to take St. Thomas’ natural law theory seriously? Could it still be relied upon as a guide to living well? Explain.

Ch. 6: Hobbes

3) Compare Christ’s Golden Rule with Hobbes’ Golden Rule. Which do you think is more effective in getting people to obey the laws, and why?

4) What is Hobbes’ stance on the question of state censorship? What reasons does he give to support his view? Do you agree or disagree with him, and why?

Ch. 7: Hume

5) According to Hume, would justice be necessary in a utopian society? Why or why not? Do you think he is correct, and why?

Ch. 8: J.S. Mill

6) Explain John Stuart Mill’s theory of higher and lower pleasures: Are there any problems inherent in the theory? Overall, does Mill’s idea of higher and lower pleasures make sense to you? Why or why not?

Chapter 10 – From this chapter, in addition to the previous Chapters, we continue to enhance our knowledge and understanding about IG best business practices, and how good data governance can ensure that downstream negative effects of poor data can be avoided and subsequent reports, analyses, and conclusions based on reliable, and trusted data could be achieved.
