Discuss your thoughts on the use of NFPA and Hazardous MaterialsIdentification System (HMIS) labels in the workplace after OSHA implementedthe new GHS label requirement. As the safety manager of an industrialfacility, how would you train employees on the differences in rating for firehazards between the new safety data sheets (SDSs) and the NFPA and HMISlabels?

Your assignment for this unit is to complete a case study of the incidents atthe Hoeganaes Corporation in 2011. Review the pages 1–24 of the summary reportfrom the Chemical Safety Board (CSB) concerning the Hoeganaes Corporation byclicking here. Include the components listed below in your casestudy.
- Perform a risk assessment of fire hazards at this type of manufacturingfacility. Describe the major variables that you believe wereresponsible for causing the fires and explosions that occurred atthe facility.
- List the OSHA standards that you believe would apply to the fire hazardsat the facility.
- If you were hired as the safety officer at the facility immediatelyfollowing the third incident in the report, recommend the approach youwould take to mitigate the risks associated with the fire hazardsand combustible dust, including any standards published by agenciesother than OSHA that would be helpful in establishing yourprogram.
- How would the NFPA Life Safety Code apply to this facility?
