Book review: American history after 1865 (nonfiction book)

Professor instruction:

The book review must be between 3-5 pages in length. It must be typed (Times New Roman, 12- point font, double-spaced).  You should provide citations to support the points you make.  Selected books must contain at least 120 pages in text.  In addition, the selected work must be a nonfiction book of a historical nature.  The chosen book should pertain to American history after 1865.  

You should write down the title of the book and the author’s name in the first sentence of the review.  In the first paragraph of the paper you should explain what the author’s theme or themes were in writing the book.  In the second paragraph of the paper you should write if in your opinion the author proved his/her point.  Support your opinion with specific examples from the book.  Did you like or dislike the book? Did the book enhance your knowledge of American History?  Why or why not?  Try to be as analytical as possible.  You may provide a brief summary of the book but most of the paper should be based on your opinions.  Describe some of the positives and negatives about the book.  You will be graded on how well you make your case.  Check for grammatical mistakes!
