Compose a First Draft

YOUR TASK

STEP 1: Use your reading notes to synthesize each of the sources we have read/watched in this unit. What perspective do they offer about Hurricane Katrina? How does each text work to make sense of what happened? How does each text understand what happened?

STEP 2: Discover your perspective. As a reader in 2019, what do you have to offer to this conversation? How do you interpret this event?

STEP 3: Compose a complete first draft of your essay. You should aim for completeness, but not for perfection. Every writer in our learning community will bring a draft in progress and use our Writing Workshop time to discover a plan for revision.

STEP 4: To get credit for your work, upload your draft to this assignment AND print out two hard copies of your first draft and bring them with you to class on Monday, 9/30. We will use these drafts to conduct our Writing Workshop where you will give and receive strategic feedback on essay drafts.
