Our daily lives are inundated by gendered and sexual advertising; it is found in news stories, television programs, popular music, dating websites, and more. We become so accustomed to this inundation that many of these references to gender and sexuality pass us by without our giving them conscious thought. In this exercise you will act like an anthropologist and carefully examine the world around you. Carry a journal with you throughout the course of a regular day. Make a note every time you encounter an example of gendered or sexual advertising. Did you pass a billboard featuring a couple holding hands? Did you receive an e-mail offering pills to enhance your sex life? Did you see sexual or gendered ads in your Instagram feed?
